Like bushfires, coastal hazards are an unavoidable part of our future. Sea-level rise, erosion and flooding are increasingly necessary considerations when it comes to coastal land use.
The Margaret River coastline has been assessed for coastal hazards in the past. The Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaption Plan was completed in 2015 by Shore Coastal on behalf of the Shire of Augusta Margaret River. This was a high-level assessment that considered the entire coastal frontage within the shire.
A subsequent, more detailed Coastal Hazard Assessment has been undertaken by M P Rogers and Associates, who are engineering consultants specialising in coastal projects, with expertise in the costal processes and geology specific to the Gnarabup locality.
The assessment by M P Rogers and Associates takes into account specific site context and the various reef, rock and cliff formations that are part of the shoreline in Gnarabup when forecasting the likely coastal erosion impact. The report has concluded that coastal processes and inundation are not a risk for this project.

No. There is no risk to the development from rising sea levels. The detailed assessment carried out specific to this area has determined that the risk of rising sea levels is not a threat to this project.

No. The project is sufficiently set back from the coastline with all of the land being on the eastern side of the existing roads – Oceanview Road, Reef Drive and Seagrass Place.
The limestone headland that looks over Gnarabup Beach to the north and Gas Bay to the south will remain untouched as the development is not located on this headland.
The site for the hotel is located on the other side of Ocean View Road from the headland. The Gnarabup Village is located further south on the other side of Seagrass Place.
