Enhancing existing beach access

One of our key considerations in designing the project has been to improve community access to Gnarabup Beach and Gas Bay. The design introduces new and upgraded landscaped pedestrian linkages through and around our site to the beach, as well as increased carpark capacity along Ocean View Road and in the Ocean View Car Park.

Our stated aims around beach access for the project are:

  • to provide publicly accessible facilities for the enjoyment of the general public
  • to provide ease of public access through and across the development
  • to provide a safe external environment for the quiet enjoyment of the residents, guests and the general public.

Direct access to Gnarabup Beach will be improved by providing a new landscaped pedestrian path connecting Wallcliffe Road with the Gnarabup Beach car park. This new path is located within the unbuilt Mitchell Road reserve that runs along the northern boundary of the hotel site. Other new footpaths will be constructed around the hotel that connect to the existing walking paths currently provided by the Augusta Margaret River Shire.

There is currently no formal pedestrian network through the Gnarabup Village land. The new development of this land includes a landscaped network of open space and paths through our landholdings that connect all four lots with existing coastal access paths.

In addition, we have proposed to improve beach parking through an expansion of Gnarabup Beach car park and the introduction of parallel parking bays along both sides of Ocean View Road. The proposed addition of 74 new bays along Ocean View Road, as well as in Ocean View Car Park, will triple the existing carpark capacity.

Beach Access & Parking FAQs

Will the development negatively impact public access to the beach?

No, there will be no changes to access points to any of the beaches near the site. We will be introducing new landscaped pedestrian linkages through and around our land that connect with these beach access paths and make it easier for the community to access the surrounding beach.

Will the development make it harder to get to Gnarabup Beach?

No. We will actually improve access to Gnarabup Beach by introducing a new pedestrian landscape corridor linking Wallcliffe Road directly to the Gnarabup Beach car park, as well as building new pedestrian paths around the hotel that connect with existing footpaths. These measures will make it much easier for the local community to access Gnarabup Beach.

What will happen with regard to parking at Gnarabup Beach?

We have proposed to expand the Gnarabup Beach car park and introduce parallel parking bays along both sides of Ocean View Road. The proposed addition of 74 new bays along Ocean View Road, as well as in Ocean View Car Park, will triple the existing carpark capacity.
